Privacy

The short version

We do not want your data. Cue8 works without an account, and your music stays on your device and in your own iCloud. If you join the community, your creator profile, a handle, a name, and a generated monogram avatar (your initials in colours you pick, never a photo), and the grooves you choose to publish are public to other Cue8 users. While you have a community profile, we also keep anonymous play counts to rank releases. Any other analytics are optional and off unless you switch them on. This website sets no tracking cookies, and we run no ads.

The Cue8 app

• You can use all of Cue8's music-making without an account.
• Your patterns, projects, and settings are stored on your device and in your personal iCloud storage (Apple CloudKit), tied to your own Apple account. August Audio has no access to them.
• MIDI files you export are created locally and shared only where you send them.
• All purchases are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details.

The community (optional)

• To publish grooves or have a creator profile, we give you a stable, pseudonymous identity linked to your Apple account. We receive an identifier and, only if you choose to share it, a name. We never receive your Apple Account password, and we have no way to access your Apple profile photo.
• Your public creator profile is a handle, an artist or display name, and a monogram avatar built from your initials and the colours you choose. You cannot upload photos, so no images of you are stored.
• Grooves you publish are stored in the app's public iCloud database and are visible to, and can be imported by, other Cue8 users. Publishing is always an explicit action; nothing is shared automatically.
• When you play a release from the community, including the app's factory templates, Cue8 records an anonymous count of the play and its length so we can rank releases in the community. This is tied to the release, not to you: it is stored under a one-way code with no name or identifier attached, is kept for up to 90 days, and is recorded only while you have a community profile. It is separate from the optional analytics below, and it is recorded whether or not analytics are on.
• You can delete your profile and published content from within the app. Removal is usually completed within 30 days. Copies others have already imported, plus limited backups and aggregate, non-identifying statistics, may persist.

Children

The community is not for children under 13, and you must meet the minimum age for us to rely on your consent in your country (up to 16 in parts of the European Union). If we learn we hold a child's community profile without the required consent, we delete it.

Analytics (optional, off by default)

• Cue8 collects anonymous usage and diagnostic data only if you turn analytics on in the app's settings. It is off by default, and you can turn it off again at any time.
• When it is on, this data is anonymous and is not tied to your identity. There is no advertising identifier and no cross-app tracking. We do not currently use a third-party analytics provider. If we add one, it will be a privacy-focused provider acting on our behalf, the data will be kept no longer than needed and never more than 90 days, and we will name it here before that collection starts.

How long we keep it, and where

• Community content is kept until you delete it; anonymous community play counts and any optional analytics data are kept for up to 90 days; an email address is kept until you unsubscribe.
• August Audio is based in Türkiye. Depending on the service, your data may be processed in Türkiye, the European Union, or the United States by the providers we use (Apple, our email provider Kit, and our website host Cloudflare). If we add an analytics provider later, we will name it here.

This website

• No cookies, no cross-site tracking.
• We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless service that gives us aggregate page-view counts without identifying visitors.

Email list

• If you sign up for email updates, we store your email address with Kit (kit.com), the service that sends our mail.
• We send major-update announcements only, with no marketing drip.
• Every email contains an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes your address from the list.

Your choices and rights

• You can turn analytics off, delete your community profile and content in the app, and unsubscribe from email at any time.
• To ask what data we hold about you, or to request its correction or deletion, contact us at the address below.
• If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or Türkiye, you also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
